The Battle Ensues
The drought and water crisis has given rise to a water war between corporate farms and orchards, small farmers, suburbs, cities and new real estate developments. Among the many disputes that are taking place over who has access and the right to use water is a battle over the almond industry. Almonds are a high value crop, but are also responsible for using about "10% of the developed water in California" (NPR).
