The Koryo Dynasty
The Koryo dynasty whose name is the basis of the word Korea, lasted until 1392. The rulers continued to adopt Chinese ideas but worked to maintain distinct Korea features. They adopted the civil service examination system which was very similar to China's, but in Korea only the Nobles could take the test. Another thing is that the government positions were inherited which is why they were divided between powerful nobility and just regular people. During this time the Korean culture thrived. they developed a new type of pottery called celadon. They also used Chinese methods of printing. In the 1200's the Moguls and Yuan invaded and occupied Korea and many of the Koreans were enslaved and forced to serve in the military. Over time the Yuan dynasty weakend and the Korean's rebelled. In 1392 a Korean general founded a new dynasty which ruled until 1910.
