Core Region vs. Peripheral Region
What is a Core Region and a Peripheral Region?
Core: The center of economic, political, and/ or cultural power within a given territorial entity.
Peripheral: The least power region and therefore marginalized or under the control of both semi-peripheral regions and core regions.
Whats the difference(s)?
The Core Regions consist of where the positive characteristics of globalization typically occur, such as: modern development, access to healthcare/water/food/shelter, and an increase of economic prosperity.
The Peripheral Regions consist of generally characterized by poverty and extremely low living standards. There is very low access to adequate water/food as well as poor infrastructure.
Core Regions are the most prosperous and contain much wealth,while peripheral has a declining economic development and are not reaping from the benefits of global wealth.
