What are the differences in pollution levels in Hong Kong (China) and Mumbai (International)?
"Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented"
- Barry Commorner
Over that past decade there has been a lot of talk about Hong Kong rising as a country and there have also been many points made about Hong Kong's pollution levels. This has become more of a problem in the past decade as there have been more factories coming up near Hong Kong and the general air and light pollution in Hong Kong has started to increase.
I first was interested in this topic when I went back to Mumbai, India (International city) two years ago during the summer and I started wondering why there were no significantly visible clouds and the sky was constantly a dull blueish grey. This intrigued me a a lot because until that moment when I started to question myself I had always assumed that Hong Kong's air pollution was worse than Mumbai's as there were many factories and Shenzhen is closer to Hong Kong all the other information. Just by observing the sky and the clouds and the air in Mumbai for just under a month in it was obvious that the air pollution in Hong Kong is much lesser than Mumbai's.
Just by noticing that the difference between he air pollution in Hong Kong and Mumbai isn't going to change anything. This is a problem for both cities and it is only going to get worse in the years to come if we don't act or do something about this. These a two major cities in their respective countries, these two cities are also major business cities and also the some the most upcoming cities in the world right now.
