Of Edgar Allan Poe

Early Life

Edgar Allan Poe’s childhood was filled with death and sadness. Poe was born to a family of traveling actors. He was brought into this world on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. Edgar's father abandoned him and his mother at an early age. Then his mother died leaving Edgar as an orphan. Edgar had two siblings, an older brother named William and a little sister named Rosalie. The website Poetry Foundation states, “Before Poe was three years old both of his parents died, and he was raised in the home of John Allan, a prosperous exporter from Richmond, Virginia, who never legally adopted his foster son.”
