Chelmno By: Timmon Hogan
Chelmno was made because Hitler needed a way to punish the jews. If the jews were caught they would be sentence to the killing centers. The officers would drive around in vans and let the exhaustion pipes flow into the back where the jews were. The camp was closed because the government found them.
~Was the first killing center
~Made to get rid of jews
~It was a mass killing center
~They drove around in vans with the jews in the back as the exhaust fumes flew around in the back
~Hermann Göring instructed Reinhard Heydrich to make a plan for the "final solution of the Jewish question"
~The german police officers sentenced them to the killing centers if the jews were hiding
~The center was closed twice
~After the trains arrived at the killing centers, guards ordered the jews to get out and form a line
~The jews went through a selection process
~A Nazi, usually an SS physician, looked quickly at each person to decide if he or she was healthy and strong enough for forced labor
The hero of chelmno was the allied powers because they scared the nazis into destroying the place. They destroyed it because they needed to get rid of any evidence. So no one would suspect anything.
It is important so people could know the history and know how the jews were treated/ got rid of in the holocaust. This will show how it was to live in the center and who were in it.
