The Mayans Culture

Far to the east of Teotihuacán, On the Yucatán Peninsula another major civilization has arisen. This was a civilization the Maya, which was flourished between A.D 300 and 900. It was one of the most sophisticated civilizations in the Americas. The Maya's build splendid temples and pyramid's and developed a complicated calendar as accurate as any  in existence in the world at that time. Maya's were farming people and they also cleared the dense rain forest, also centered their culture in city-states. Maya civilization included much of Central America and Southern Mexico. Sometime around the 800, the Maya civilization in central Yucatán Peninsula began to decline. You may ask why did this happen? Explanations include invasion, internal revolt, or a volcanic eruption . A more recent theory is that overuse of the land led to reduced crop yields. Whatever the case was, cities like Tikal and Palenque were abandoned and covered by dense jungle growth. They were not rediscovered until the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They believe their was 100,000 in

They believe that their was 100,00 people in the Maya's civilization.

The ancient Maya are well-known for their exotic, vibrant, appearances and practice of unusual body modifications. They exploited the materials available to them in their tropical environments to manufacture colourful textiles and striking ornamentation. They produced a wide range of outfits for different occasions, including lavish dress for large public events; vibrant dance costumes; protective armour for conflicts; sporting attire; and simpler, yet no less sophisticated, clothing for everyday situations.

Many of the foods of the Maya, both ancient and modern, are strange to us, such as manioc, chaya, and jicama; but other fruits and vegetables are found in today's supermarkets--avocados, sweet potatoes, guavas, and tomatoes--or are the sources of such familiar foods and seasonings as vanilla beans, chili peppers.

They were skilled architects, building great cities of stone that remain even a thousand years after their civilization fell into decline. The Maya built pyramids, temples, palaces, walls, residences and more. They often decorated their buildings with intricate stonecarvings, stucco statues and paint.

These calendars were known as the Long Year, the Solar Year, and the Tzolk'in. The Long Year calendar was used to measure long periods of time and is responsible for the 2012 predictions. The Solar Year is the calendar that most closely resembles our Gregorian calendar;

sky gods, particularly the sun god (Kinich Ahau), the Maya moon goddess, and the patrons of the Venus cycle; gods of the weather and the crops, particularly the rain god (Chaac), the lightning god (Bolon Dzacab), the aged deities of the underground, terrestrial water, and thunder (Bacabs), and the Maya maize gods;

Some of the warriors were actually more powerful than the nobles they served. The leaders of the warriors in each city might work with the city priests to determine if captives were needed for sacrifice.Warriors spent their life training to be better warriors. It was important to be a good warrior because the Maya cities were often at war with each other. Some scholars think they were always at war.The Maya did not use metal weapons. They had stone weapons and weapons made of wood and shells. They also carried shields.Warriors fought battles only during the day. That's how things were done when Maya cities went to war. A temporary peace was called each night. A battle continued, day after day, until the leader of one army was hurt or killed. Once that happened, the battle was over. The army without a leader went home leaving captives and their dead behind.The losers had to pay a tribute to the winners. This was negotiated and could be just about anything, including goods, people, textiles, gold, silver, copper, and salt.

My summary: The Maya's had an excellent way of technology and lots of smartness. They didn't make the calendar time but they used it during their life and many of them used it to determine when the world was going to end. Maybe it wasn't true but they where accurate to what they where doing. They were really strict about their warriors weapons and how they dressed for war.
