College and career
History & Origin
Yale University was established in 1701, in the 1640's colonial men wanted to bring the traditional Euoropean librial education to the new world. In 1708 it was officially named "Yale College" in thanks to Elihu Yale, for donating proceeds, 417 books, and a portrait of King Gorge I.
During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries Yale's departments were finally established, such as the School of Medicine, Law school, Graduate School of Arts and more. Ever since the 1830's international students have enrolled at Yale university in some of their finest departments, in fact some of the first international students came from Italy and china, to this day 16% of the student body are from different parts of the world. There is more history to Yale than anybody thinks but that's what makes it one of the most fascinating colleges in the U.S.
I chose this university because Yale is the type of university you want to explore because of its education and history. Yale's education system is the main reason why I chose this university, actually I want to attend in The School of Music. Even though my life long dream is to help the community I will always have a selfish need for music. The School of Music is well known for its collection of instruments, such as pianos, string instruments and more. But of all these fascinating things they might have Yale is a place that speaks through music, and that just might be the only way I want to learn music.
To apply at the School of Music at Yale University, you need to do the following; 1: need to pay the $125 fee; 2: send prescreening recordings; 3: A resume or CV; 4: Three letters of recommendations; 5: Academic Transcripts; 6: A TOFEL if your first language is not English (International students); and finally your GRE score for Composition applicants only.
Yale supports student made organizations because they realized that organizations enhance not only a students creativity but also their education above their personal development. The university supports all students to join not only student made clubs/organizations but also to join organizations to the whole community. In fact the Yale College committee, on Undergraduate organizations, help students plan and develop, and sometimes give financial advice.
But the most important thing besides the organizations and clubs are the students, and how Yale wants this campus to be there second home. At Yale they arrange all kinds of events for the students to bond as one with the community. Actully Yale incouriges their students give to the community, community service! For instants at the Yale university website, they have tons of idas for students to voulunteer at community hospitals or they can sign up at Yale University Chaplain's Office. A spring break program that offers students opportunities to volunteer at New Haven with other Yale students. But besides this Yale offers many opportunities for students to give back and interact with the New Haven community.
Most Musicians play more than one instrument, but most have a main instrument that they are naturally good at. But no matter the instrument or how good you play ALL musicians practice even the pop singers today. Most musicians are creative, self disciplined, work well with others and of course have musical talent. Actually most musicians travel frequently and mostly perform evenings and weekends. So as you can tell music takes most of your whole life , as a musician. As musicians go further into the music career you not only play music you also teach music. Actually musician and teacher, Akiko states, "A musician needs to have passion. To be successful, you need to be passionate about music and what you do because you will be spending many hours playing, practicing, and working on music lessons with your students and other musicians."
I believe to be passionate about music you have to love it with all your heart, and just going into this career proves how much you love it. Why? Because being a musician is not only about knowing the music its about being dedicated to it ALL. But as Akiko said, "A musician needs to have passion." I totally agree but I want to take on music as my career because I not only love music, I want to pass that passion for it down to anybody who hears me play.
How much I make on my career depends on what I use my logic of music for. For example I could teach music which would make me the same wage as a regular teacher. if I was to be in a Symphonic Orchestra group I would make about $22,000 a year. And also if I was to perform at musical theater I would make on average $22,500 a year. On the other hand if I was to perform my own music, meaning I would write and perform my music in front of others, I would make around $14,400 a year. Depending if people actually pay to hear my music.
More About My Career
Musicians are involved with mostly performance of any genre, either in the recording studio or to a live audience. And when in say I want to be a musician I don't mean like, Arena Grande, I mean either composers, singers, and instrumentalist. Most musicians don't perform on their own most play in a group, such as a band, orchestra, opera or a theatrical ensemble. But to be in a top band/ or group you must be dedicated to spend most of your day practicing and learning assigned to you. And like any other career if you screw up more than a few times your done. Obviously you have to be familiar and be good and reading and performing dynamicly any form of music.
