Background

Michelangelo was raised in Florence, Italy, but lived in Rome for most of his life.

His father was a magistrate and his family had a financial business.

Started out as an apprentice to a painter, then moved on to study in sculpture gardens of the Medici family.

He was known to be a very bold yet well-educated artist.

Michelangelo had dark hair, a beard, and brown eyes.

Contribution

Michelangelo is most famous for his sculptures "Pieta" and "David", and for his painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Michelangelo's "David" is most known for its immense amount of detail; right down to the veins on the arms. The face portrays a certain amount of thoughtfulness.

His painting on the Sistine Chapel also has an incredible amount of detail, and it contains over 300 figures.

Impact

Michelangelo set high standards for painting and architecture during his time in the Renaissance. He had a huge influence on art culture later in time. His works are located in Italy; mostly in Rome and Florence.
