Simon Cowell's Early Life
Simon Cowell grew up just outside London, England. He was born on October 7, 1959. He has one brother, and four half-siblings. Simon was mostly bored in school, which made him a troublemaker. He kept getting kicked out of school, and eventually dropped out at age 17. Soon after, he worked in his dad’s business working in the mail room. When he was 22, his friend started a music publishing company called Fanfare. Sadly, the business failed. Simon soon met a business producer that said that his tactics were “absolutely useless”. He didn't let that get in his way, and followed that person around for three years such as walking around with him, seeing what he does in his free time, or watching how he displays his work. Many years later, Cowell sold over 25 million albums and proved that person wrong.
Simon Cowell had not had a very happy childhood. He was bullied, his father wasn't home very often, and he hated school. Simon now has many jobs including a television producer and a recording manager. He has also been a judge on many shows including American Idol, and the British X-Factor. He claims he would not be as successful in his career without the bullies. They encouraged him more to do what he wanted to do; judge and make people's dreams come true.
Simon is known for many things, but mostly his unkind criticism for contestants of the shows he has been on. But, he is also known for being talented in putting together groups or finding talent in singers. Some groups or singers he was the founder of include the boy band, One Direction, the female singer, Cher Lloyd, and many others.
After Simon Cowell got older, he worked as a record producer, consultant, and a talent scout. After he worked those jobs, he produced the hit British TV show, Pop Idol in 2001, and it’s other United States TV show, American Idol in 2002. In 2004, Simon Cowell got nominated as the one of the Top Entertainers for that year. He stayed on American Idol and gained 40 million dollars in 2007. Also that year, he was named the person with the most personality.
