By: Paul Zindel

Characters

Lorraine is a high school sophomore who is doesn't have a lot of friends. She is sensitive and likes to hang with John. John is a troublemaker who loves to smoke and drink. He is also is a high school sophomore with Lorraine. Mr. Pignati is an older man who loves to have fun. Although he is lonely after his wife; Conchetta died, he seeks happiness. His best friend is a baboon also known as Bobo. Lorraine's mother is a nurse for terminally-ill elderly patients. She steals food and supplies from patients because she makes little money. She doesn't like for Lorraine to be around boys because of what happened to her. John's dad (Bore) is a coffee exchange worker who doesn't really like his son. He is always stressed from working or his family (mainly John). John's mom (Old lady) is a clean freak who loves clean, clean and clean. Norton (Marshmallow kid) is a horrible kid who likes to steal anything he can get his hands on.

Setting

There are many settings and they take place in John, Lorraine and Mr. Pignati house, the mall, school, graveyard and hospital. This all take place in Staten Island, NY.

Plot

The main event in the book was the prank call because it begun a new friendship and a sense of companionship.  Conflict- Norton wants to steal from The Pigman but John tries to stop him.  Climax-Norton comes to the party and he destroys the pigs. Conclusion- John thinks how about his parents and how his father will soon die.

Conflict

The main conflict happened when Lorraine and John threw that boisterous party. The party caused Mr.Pignati to be angry and sad. Part of him was angry because they trashed his house and he felt used. The other part of him was sad because someone broke his pigs and someone ripped one of Conchetta's dresses. Another conflict happened when Mr.Pignati found out Bobo was dead, this caused Mr.Pignati to die of loneliness.

Theme

There are multiple themes such as..........

  • Love                Loneliness     Lies
  • Attention        Guilt               Family

Symbolism

One main example of symbolism that is provided in the story is a cage. The cage represents the life Bobo, John, Lorraine and Mr.Pignati have, controlled lives.

Foreshadowing

John and Lorraine were foreshadowing death when they had those dreams about the back room and death.

Connections

I can connect because... Sometimes i feel guilty and i also lie sometimes

Text to Text- I read this other book called My Love, this book relates to the Pigman because they both focus on love and  guilt.

Text to World- All around the world people feel lonely and everyone dies eventually.

Media Sources

I chose this song because John nd Lorraine think that they are the reason

The roller skates were important in the story because this marks the first time Mr.P saw Lorraine as a daughter. This event also allowed them to spend more time together having lots of end.

Maybe Conchetta died of cancer or another natural cause, but she might of been murdered by somebody.

I think that she might have really went to California to visit family. But when she was there she might have had a stroke or heart attack or she could have been murdered. Or she could have had a disease or from old age.

I think she died of natural causes because she had someone to take care of her, and she had a happy life. But she could have died of a disease or old age.
