All through out the late 1900's to the early 2000's, Tuberculosis (TB) was the leading cause of death.
The popular belief is that the affected TB patient should be place somewhere with lots of sunshine, cool nights, clean air and low humidity.
Sanitariums were made to treat people with TB but so many people died in them it's believed to be haunted!
Sanitariums were built in the temperate areas mostly with the traits described above.
Because of it's climate Western North Carolina was a good place for suffering TB patients.
